Youth of the Streets, Australia, founded by Father Chris Riley has been providing services to assist homeless and disadvantaged youth since 1991. Father Chris Riley himself has worked with disadvantaged youth for more than 30 years in a variety of roles including teacher, youth worker, probation officer, resident carer and principal. Dr. Peter Abas had the privilege to serve as a volunteer at the Youth of the Streets and experience first hand on how various programs for the youth are implemented at the center. Dr. Peter explains that the center overseas the operation of over 25 programs that employs over 180 staff and involves more than 325 volunteers.
Dr. Peter says that in spite of the abuse the youth have suffered, as well as the drugs, prostitution, crime and violence they have become involved in, the kids are still precious and loveable. Parents should give more time, attention and love, rather than money, to their children, he added, to keep them away from unhealthy activities.
