Put Your Best Foot Forward

I have talked about doing what you love, overcoming stress and how to be productive. Today, I’ll tell you just why it is so important to do everything to your best ability.

Whenever you are presented with a task, one you want or don’t want to do, you have a choice over how well you do it. Will you give it a hundred percent, or just fifty? It is often hard to motivate ourselves to do the absolute best we can, because it takes more effort, concentration and brain power. And so it seems easier to do it halfway or just kind of right, for the sake of getting it done.

I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t hire a person with that kind of attitude. The key to succeeding is not being amazingly intelligent and hard working, which many would think means ‘always working’. No – the key is to do everything to the best of your ability. No matter how good the outcome is, if it is your best, you deserve to be proud of it. And no one can tell you otherwise.

For tasks you enjoy, this may be much easier, however for tasks you just want to get over with, it may take some persuading and sheer willpower for you to put your best foot forward.

Here are some steps to help you complete a task with maximum effort:

1. Once you start it, finish it. Don’t stop halfway, the first step to do something to your best ability is to actually complete it. This may seem obvious, but there are a tremendous amount of people who give up halfway, even on small things. Be determined and finish what you started.

2. Make your surroundings as comfortable as possible. When you can do something in a comfortable setting, the task itself seems less tacky. It motivates you and gives you one less excuse not to do the task.

3. Enhance your mindset. The more positive you are, the more willing you are in general to do things. If you are willing and positive, you increase the level of effort you put into things, because you want a good outcome. Also, it makes you tackle the task more lightly, so you’re motivated to do it properly.

4. Get ready for rewards and satisfaction. After you have completed the task, having done the best you can, you look at the outcome and go ..wow.., because it is simply awesome. When you put your best foot forward, even the small things can seem like great accomplishments. Then, reward yourself with something you really enjoy.

Not only will you be more satisfied and accomplished when you always do your best, but other people will see and commend you for it. You may get the job, or into the university you’ve always dreamed of.

I have also found that when I do my best, after a while, the time taken for certain things decreases, because I simply stop moaning about it, and get it done. Because I do my best, I don’t have to redo it, and whoever I did it for is happy with it. This saves time and frustration, and so allows you to do things you really do like.

So give it your all and put your best foot forward!
